This month I have launched a collaboration we've been working on behind the scenes here at Fenella Smith for a while now and I couldn't be happier to be getting it out there for you all to enjoy.
Introducing Fenella Smith x 83 Oranges with two limited edition prints, Morning News and Jungle Safari, adding to our much loved vegan leather beauty and travel accessories making the perfect gift for lovers of bright florals and joyful companions for up and coming summer escapes away.
I have long admired Uma’s work at 83 Oranges and her ethos of Slow Living - yes please! Uma is talented and passionate about her sumptuous artwork which captures delightful and enchanting moments - a perfect partner for us sharing many of the same values.
To celebrate this launch and help you get to know the story behind the collection better I took some time out to chat to Uma the founder and illustrator behind 83 Oranges to share her passion for colour and her artwork.
The colours in your work are so vibrant - can you tell us why colour is so important to your work?
Uma: It’s all about colour. When you look at magazines, advertising, television or art, the thing you remember is the balance of colours. Colours arouse the most diverse sensations, can sway thinking, change actions and cause reactions.
Is your home also filled with colour?
Uma: It is! Right now I'm loving shades of turquoise paired with pops of pink
What medium do you work with to create your art?
Uma: Though a few of my artworks are made using traditional techniques, I lately prefer making all my artworks on my iPad Pro using Adobe Fresco.
Do you have favourite pieces that you have created?
Uma: Here are some of my favourite pieces.
Do you have any advise for bringing colour into a home?
Uma: I believe Your home should tell the story of who you are and be a collection of what you love. Punches of color here and there surely keep a room looking fresh & young.
What are you working on at the moment?
Uma: I try to make one artwork everyday. I am also currently working on a custom logo design for a woman-owned bakery in Toronto.
A huge thank you to Uma for her time, tips and inspiration. Visit 83 Oranges and follow them on Instragram and Facebook for more print inspiration for your home.
